CHETTI PEN MARUTHUVAM (Puranic Story Of Chettipen)
Long ago a lady named as Ratnavathi, wife of a merchant was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. She got married to Dhana Guptan in Trisirapuram, Rathanvathi prayed to Chevanthinadhar and became pregnant. She prayed to Lord Chevanthinathar daily for normal delivery. At the time of delivery she was eagerly waiting for her mother to assist in her delivery. But due to floods in River Cauvery, her mother was (who started with medicines oil, etc necessary for delivery),was held up on other side of river and unable to reach her daughter .To relieve Ratnavathi from grievance, God himself came in the guise of her mother and helped her in delivering the child safely (son) and gave her medical care and ministered to her needs for few days. When the original mother came at last, Ratnavathi was puzzled .At once the God disappeared and gave Dharshan to both with his Divine Consort. From that day Chevanthinathar is known as Thayumanavar.
This event is celebrated as MEDICAL CARE TO CHETTY GIRL on the Fifth day of the CHITHRAI FESTIVAL (BETWEEN APRIL TO MAY) Devotees come here to pray for
NORMAL and SAFE DELIVERY, After the prayer becomes true,
they offer BUNCH OF BANANA AND MILK to the lord .
