Kozhiyoor

Woraiyoor was called as Kozhiyoor  because there was a war between kozhi (hen) and Elephant Finally the hen won against the elephant. From that day it is called as Kozhiyoor.

Sooravaathitan


Sooravaathitan Cholan (the son of Jananatha Cholan from  Manukuzham,who ruled
kozhiyoor as his capital once upon time) after his father, he became the king of (kozhiyoor) woraiyoor ,one day he went hunting to the Easternside to Saramamunivar Sevanthi flower
garden.  At that time he saw  Athiseshan’s seven daughters with sevanthi flowers to worship Siramalai’s Sevanthi Nathar.

Gandhimathi Marriage function

 After seeing them king Sooravaathitan was interested and wished to marry all the girls of Athiseshan. But the girls didn’t agree to marry him. At that juncture Sooravaathitan went to Nagalogam to meet Athiseshan, and get permission to marry atleast one of them He married Gandhimathi, daughter of Athiseshan (She is a severe worshiper of Lord Chevanthinathar).

Gandhimathi with the permission of her husband she daily went by walk to Siramalai to worship the Siramalainathan. Even after she became pregnant, she regulary went to Siralmalai to ofter her prayer. One day, due to excess heat, she lost her walking abliltiy and fell down on the way, She was unable to pray to god on that day and so cried to the god

LORD APPEAR AS SWAYAMBUNATHAR

AT that time Lord Siva as Swayambunathar understood her feelings, he appeared before her as Swayambulingam {god appear as swayambu (thaanaga thontriyavar )so he called is Thaanthondreeswarar }After hearing this news Soorvathitan became astonished and happy .He constructed a separate temple for Thaanthonreeswarar . This temple is situated on the midway to Woraiyoor.
